The Will Carleton Poor House
More Info | + My Favorites
The Will Carleton Poor House is one of Hillsdale's most historically significant buildings. Although the house is just a small cobblestone structure, its use as a place for the old and infirm is what it is remembered for. The house was put into the national eye when a local news reporter wrote a poem in 1872 called Over the Hill to the Poor House, which was printed in a national publication and brought the issue of moral consciousness to the mainstream.
